Exeter University Aquathlon

On 28th April, five of our members decided to take a break from revision and take part in the Exeter University Aquathlon which took place on Streatham campus. The race was part of the Aquathlon Series organised by Exeter Triathlon Club and consisted of a 600m swim in our Cornwall House Pool, followed by a hilly 4.6km run around campus.

First from the club to finish was Brad Toseland who completed the race in an impressive time of 29:05, which meant he finished in 4th place overall. Next to finish was Hannah Mattinson who sped through the course in a brilliant time of 29:35, bagging herself the position of first female. This was a very promising result ahead of her race at Europeans in just 4 weeks time. Alastair Smith was our next member to finish with a great time of 29:50, ensuring himself a place in the top 10 finishers. Close on his heels was Quang Tran who also raced well, finishing the aquathlon in 32:37 with a very impressive performance in the swim. Poppy Beaumont produced excellent times in both disciplines to finish with a great time of 35:22.

Overall, it was a promising morning of racing for the club with only roughly a month to go before BUCS Sprint Triathlon.

Sidmouth Aquathlon

On Sunday 3rd March, a huge 22 athletes represented EUTriC at Sidmouth aquathlon, it was great to see so many members get involved. The sprint race consisted of a 600m swim to start, followed by a 5km run. The conditions this year contrasted greatly to last years snow, and helped our members produce some promising times.

A special mention goes out to our events secretary Simon Jones who finished aquathlon in a brilliant overall time of 30:31, finishing 4th overall! Close on Simon’s heels were Hannah Mattinson and Brad Toseland who both finished the race in 30:54, well done! Next to finish was Chris James who put in a fantastic effort after a heavy week of training, finishing 11th with a time of 31:12. Our treasurer Matt Kuningas finished next with a great race of 31:32, closely followed by Alastair Smith who finished in 31:46. Next was Tom Diamond with his first race for EUTriC, putting in a great performance finishing 18th in 32:13. Shortly after Tom came the trio Edward Lawton, Quang Tran and Alexis Sion who finished 19th, 20th and 21st respectively.

The second EUTriC girl to finish was Eliza Gilchrist who finished the race in an impressive 33:15. Next was Coral Hays who finished in 33:38, closely followed by Sophie Woolcock with a time of 34:01, well done girls! Former athlete of the week, Ben Jones put in a great performance finishing in 35:14. Next was Poppy Beaumont who finished in 35:17, and this was Poppy’s first multi-discipline race for the club! Frank Gandecki finished in a great time of 35:50, with Allan Truman not far behind with a time of 36:12. Jess Clark put in a brilliant effort and finished the race in 38:11, having only recently recovered from a back injury.

Overall, some brilliant and promising performances from the club!
