On Sunday 3rd March, a huge 22 athletes represented EUTriC at Sidmouth aquathlon, it was great to see so many members get involved. The sprint race consisted of a 600m swim to start, followed by a 5km run. The conditions this year contrasted greatly to last years snow, and helped our members produce some promising times.
A special mention goes out to our events secretary Simon Jones who finished aquathlon in a brilliant overall time of 30:31, finishing 4th overall! Close on Simon’s heels were Hannah Mattinson and Brad Toseland who both finished the race in 30:54, well done! Next to finish was Chris James who put in a fantastic effort after a heavy week of training, finishing 11th with a time of 31:12. Our treasurer Matt Kuningas finished next with a great race of 31:32, closely followed by Alastair Smith who finished in 31:46. Next was Tom Diamond with his first race for EUTriC, putting in a great performance finishing 18th in 32:13. Shortly after Tom came the trio Edward Lawton, Quang Tran and Alexis Sion who finished 19th, 20th and 21st respectively.
The second EUTriC girl to finish was Eliza Gilchrist who finished the race in an impressive 33:15. Next was Coral Hays who finished in 33:38, closely followed by Sophie Woolcock with a time of 34:01, well done girls! Former athlete of the week, Ben Jones put in a great performance finishing in 35:14. Next was Poppy Beaumont who finished in 35:17, and this was Poppy’s first multi-discipline race for the club! Frank Gandecki finished in a great time of 35:50, with Allan Truman not far behind with a time of 36:12. Jess Clark put in a brilliant effort and finished the race in 38:11, having only recently recovered from a back injury.
Overall, some brilliant and promising performances from the club!
On the weekend of 9-10th February, a few of our athletes took part in the annual Exeter Half Marathon along the river Exe. Despite strong winds our members achieved some impressive times, there were personal bests all round and for some this was their first half marathon!
On the Saturday race, alumni Tim Gordon put in an incredible performance. Tim ran the course in a rapid time of 74:40 placing 3rd overall, well done! Next to finish the course was Will Dolding who put in a great run of 1:21:18, letting him take 14th place overall! A special mention goes to Edward Lawton who finished his first ever half marathon in a brilliant time of 1:35:50. Ed placed in the top 100 and managed to raise lots of money to his charity of choice Meningitis Research. Next to finish was another half marathon first timer, Lorne Falconer! It was Lorne’s first half marathon and he ran extremely well, finishing the course in 1:37:19. Brad Toseland was on Lorne’s heels at the finish line, and finished with a great time of 1:37:25. Just 23 seconds after Brad was Alexis Sion, who ran the half in a speedy 1:37:48, it was great to see EUTriC members running and supporting each other during the race. All three guys also managed to finish in the top 100, some impressive times well done!
Our first girl to finish was Polly Dixon with an amazing time of 1:40:42, closely followed by Poppy Beaumont with a brilliant run of 1:40:54. Again, it was great to see the girls work together and support each other to produce some great times! Next was Bronte Penney who ran the half with her older sister, finishing the half marathon in 1:46:54. Sophie McCormack took part in the Sunday race, completing the half marathon in a good time of 1:57:44 with still plenty left in the tank. Sophie is currently in training for the Paris Marathon, the Exeter half acted as good training and showed some great potential for Paris in April! Just to complete a half marathon is impressive enough, especially to finish within 2 hours.
A huge thank you goes out to all those who came down to marshal, support and to Exeter City Community Trust for organising the event.
