Sidmouth Aquathlon Race Report

Nine members braved the Arctic conditions to compete at the rescheduled Sidmouth Aquathlon, delayed two weeks by snow and then nearly cancelled again by a second episode of the white stuff. The race consisted of a 600m swim followed by a 5km run in temperatures below -1C, with many of our Athletes competing for the first time. The later racers also had to contend with heavy snow falling. The club managed to return to Exeter just in time to avoid getting snowed out!

Despite the weather, there were some really fantastic efforts, with EUTriC taking a full sweep of the podium. Josh Alculumbre took the overall win with a rapid run off the back of a strong swim, finishing in a time of 27:23. 2nd place went to Publicity Sec, Alex Foyn, just under a minute behind. Rounding out the podium, Brad Toseland, racing at Sidmouth for the first time, finished just over the 30min mark (time adjusted for 550m swim). Brad also won the 17-19 age-group first place. Next home was Captain, Ellen P-K, our first female finisher in 33:12. Also competing at Sidmouth for the first time, Sophie Woolcock finished in 35:28. Robert Porter was next with a strong swim of 09:34 and powered through the run finishing in 35:43. Social Sec, Molly Perkins put in a great effort in the cold conditions finishing 14th in 38:03. A solid performance saw Bizzy Watson finish next in 38:16. Unfortunately Coral Hays, after a rapid swim was unable to complete the run, going off route, it’s very easily done, especially in the conditions!

The club would like to thank Exeter Triathlon Club for organising the event, and the marshals for braving the cold and snow, including Alumni, Ollie Thorogood, normally see winning this event. Once again a massive well done to everyone who raced and a very promising start to EUTriC’s race season.
