We have been having a great season so far with members enjoying a mix of training from long course swimming at Mt Kelly to Beach Circuits, on top of our regular 8 sessions per week; and seeing some fantastic improvements. We have enjoyed visits from several of our alumni including 2015-16 Club President, Ollie Teenan and 2015-16 Mens Captain, Ollie Thorogood as well as the welcome return of our General Secretary from 2015-16, Kathrine Gardener from her year abroad in the USA. If you are in the south west and fancy giving the club a visit don’t hesitate to get in touch, you would be more than welcome to join us for training or come for a catch up.
First up, we had another strong showing at BUCS Duathlon this year, with a record turn out of 34 athletes competing for Exeter! We also had six of our athletes finishing in under 50mins despite many of them competing for the first time! Stand out performances came from Exeter first finisher, Jack Bond in 43:55 with a PB, and 23rd place overall despite not using a TT bike. Harry Preston, a regular force at the BUCS events over the last few years, was next in with a time of 44:32, also a PB! First year, Seamus Sheard, showcased his huge potential finishing not long after in 45:25. On the girls front, Captain, Ellen P-K lead from the front with a fantastic performance, finishing our highest placed girl in 53:06! Also finishing very strongly was Elise in 55:37 in her first ever Duathlon!

We will be taking a look back at the clubs participation in BUCS Duathlon over the last 7 years in a special throwback post on the alumni feed, so if you have any memories or photos you would like to share with us, please get in touch.

Great West Run
Back in October the annual Great West Run took place in Exeter. Very well done to all our 7 runners competing, including alumni, Ollie Thorogood who had a cracking race, finishing in 1:20:07, and 29th overall out of over 3000!
Great Birmingham Run
On the same day as the Great West Run, alumni and former AU president, Jack Bristow was competing in the Great Birmingham Run. He smashing his previous time to record 1:22:56, congratulations to him.
Alumni, Ashley Jones, competed in the TCS Amsterdam Marathon. Sadly, he had to pull out of the race after 3km due to a knee injury but still managed a 8km to cross the finish line. Really well done on all the hard work at training Ashley, just a shame it didn’t come together for race day – next year? Great to see he has since made a good recovery and is back running.
