On the 5th of February 7 of our athletes took part in the aquathlon at Dawlish. This was the first of 4 aquathlons in the local series and was also our first event of 2017. The race consisted of a 600m pool swim and a 5k run. The 5k run was fairly challenging based around a number of long hills with a particularly steep incline up to the finish.
On the girl’s side, Emily Burnell was our first girl home in a time of 34 minutes. Despite being her first aquathlon Emily’s fast run time placed her in an impressive 8th position overall. For Katie lambert and Jenny Withers it was also their first ever aquathlon and both raced equally well; Jenny finishing in a time of 36 minutes 36 seconds and Katie in 36 minutes 18 seconds.
Out of the boys Tim Gordon excelled in his first ever race for EUTriC by winning his age category, finishing in a time of 27 minutes and 30 seconds. It was by less than a second that he was piped to be the overall winner of the men’s category. Morgan Freeman and Quang Tran were happy with their times of 31 minutes 18 seconds and 34 minutes 12 seconds. Finally Simon Jones ran exceptionally well as another who raced in their first ever aquathlon. He finished in a highly respectable time of 33 minutes and 55seconds.
This was a fantastic race to start the season with competitive times across the board. We’re now looking forward to the Sidmouth aquathlon taking place on the 12th of March where we hope to have even more competitors.
